Look after those hips

October 31, 2018 4:20 pm

In our next installment of our health and fitness advice series we are talking about the hips. If you are having trouble in this area, this article is for you.

THE HIPS
Hip problems can develop gradually or suddenly. Knowing the nature of the injury (degenerative, traumatic, mechanical) often leads to an accurate diagnosis. Below are common problems affecting the hip joint:
• bursitis
• referred nerve pain
• osteoarthritis
• tendonitis
• strains (Labral tears)
Having a good range of internal and external rotation in the hips is important to facilitate a full and efficient golf swing. The correct swing includes a chain of events, with an effective weight transfer from your feet, up through your hips and shoulders, and out through your club. Limitations in hip rotation have been shown to be linked with increased lower back pain for golfers.

The stretch here is a great hip stretch to get started. It opens up the hips and helps get that force transfer from the hips up to the club.
