An inspiring tournament for English golf?

Wow what an amazing final day of the Masters. Who would have thought that four Englishmen would feature in the top seven of arguably the world’s best loved golf tournament? Our congratulations to Matthew Fitzpatrick, Paul Casey, Lee Westwood and above all Danny Willett for providing a welcome and much needed shot in the arm for English golf.

Let’s hope this is the catalyst for a resurgence of interest in the game among young people in this country. We’d like to think we’ve been doing our bit for some time now, with our free beginner’s programme, but there’s nothing quite like some national success to get young folk to pick up a club for the first time. And Danny Willett is a perfect role mode. The son of a vicar, he left school at 16, but returned to education with a golfing scholarship at Jacksonville State University In Alabama. Now the 29 year-old from Sheffield is on top of the world.

Thank you Danny for reminding us what a fabulous, exciting game golf can be. Let’s hope you inspire the next generation.
